Rankin' Scroo
is a native of Jamaica. Music has always been an important part of his life.
He started singing in the church choir achieving recognition at an early age. He became a
leading "DJ-Toaster" known as one who does production, performance, and promotion of
Jamaican Reggae Music. Rankin' Scroo carried these musical ventures with him from the Atlantic to the Pacific. In
1979, on Scroo's first arrival to the U.S.A., he performed with numerous Hi-Fi sound
systems and live bands in New York City. His vitality and intensity of expression, led him
to Canada where he continued his musical works. In the early 80's, Rankin' Scroo traveled
to Hawaii where he met Ginger and the duo began.

Ginger
is a native of Hawaii. Her musical background began in the church also. Ginger has
various excelling talents including songwriting, and playing keyboards. She has participated
in many music and art shows throughout Hawaii and has specialized knowledge in making
native Hawaiian instruments.

The Duo performed reggae music in many areas of Hawaii, becoming quite popular among
the native Hawaiians. Their first recording "Thanks & Praises", released in 1984, won them a "Na Hoku" Music Award for its
creative and original content.
Rankin' Scroo & Ginger were encouraged to continue their musical careers in California by "Clique Dynamic", one of the most
powerful and influential sound systems in Northern California. Since 1986, Rankin' Scroo & Ginger have performed with many
reggae artists such as: Burning Spear, Mutabaruka, Jimmy Cliff, Eek-A-Mouse, Wailing Souls, Mykal Roze, The Wailers, Sugar
Minott, Leroy Sibbles, Pablo Moses, Don Carlos, Joe Higgs, Judy Mowatt, Mighty Diamonds, Michigan & Smiley, Pato Banton,
Tippa Irie, Mikey Dread, Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers, Alpha Blondy, Lucky Dube, etc. Rankin' Scroo & Ginger's live
performances(as well as phonetic recordings) reliably entertain and captivate their audiences.
Releases:
· "Burden" (produced, recorded and manufactured in Jamaica), hit the Jamaican top ten charts in 1986.
· "Dub Watch" (recorded in Jamaica with an array of prime session musicians including members of the "High Time Players"), won
"album of the year" at the Northern California Reggae Awards in 1987.
· "Nuh Du Dat"(on the RAS Record label), an anti-cocaine theme/recording and video, moved the duo to the top of all best selling
Reggae record charts. The flip side of this hit single, "Things Man Do" (produced and recorded in Jamaica), gave Rankin' Scroo &
Ginger airplay on mainstream jazz stations (including KBLX in the San Francisco Bay Area).
· "Cry Freedom", was inspired by the story of insurgent Biko and the thousands of Africans who are victims of genocide in their
own country. Passion and pain is heartfelt in "Cry Freedom". The LP (with the same name), is a combination of various rhythms &
lyrics accenting the harmonious and versatile sounds of Rankin' Scroo & Ginger. Cuts that moved to the top of the charts include:
"Cry Freedom", "Harbour Shark Woman", "Bubble Mi", & "Livin' In Di Ghetto".

Reggae Specialist, Rankin' Scroo, has worked with production, management and sound engineering in the studio as well as on the
road touring. He has played. a major role in the support of many artists: Augustus Pablo, Pablo Moses, Culture, Alpha Blondy, Judy
Mowatt, Sister Carol, Sister Breeze, Donovan, Foundation, Bully Cat, Sugar Minott, Shabba Ranks, Johnny P., Flouragan, Super
Cat (to name a few), etc. He has done outstanding work with African groups such as Mzwakhe Mbuli (South African poet) and
Fatala (West African dancers, singers, & drummers).
His perfection never ceases to amaze the artists he works with; and they are stunned when they realize that Rankin' Scroo is more
than equipped to take center stage. In the studio, Rankin' Scroo has countless credits. He Wrote the musical score to "Take Heed"
and "Freedom Fighter", sung by Don Carlos/released on the "Black Uhuru Now" LP (Mesa/Bluemoon Record label). "Code Name
P.O.D.E.", a demo of 3 Jamaican rappers with Rankin'Scroo was released in March, 94'. Cuts include: "Judge jury" by N4SA, "Dem
Fe Dead" by Prophecy, P.O.D.E. (Product Of De Environment) by Unda P and "Who Is jah" by Rankin' Scroo. This dance hall
rhythm was composed by Rankin' Scroo & N4SA and was recorded at Crucial Youth's recording studio. Also in April/May, 94',
"To Hell With It", composed by Rankin' Scroo and rapper Money B of Digital Underground, will be released on Raw Fusion's
(Money B & DJ Fuze) "Hoochiefied Funk" LP (article in "Rolling Stone" magazine, May 5,94' issue).
Ginger has worked as support for other artists as well. She has toured playing lead keyboards and singing background vocals for:
Donovan, Foundation and Pablo Moses. Ginger (with Rankin' Scroo) have completed five major tours with Pablo Moses, which
included two extensive tours in Europe.
